How it started
It started witha lost hat.
In 2005 I flipped a raft on the Toutle River and watched my spray-painted Burton hat float away. So I cut two holes in the next one and ran my shoelaces under my chin. Friends kept asking me to make them one.
In 2013 I bet $1,400 on a first run of about 120 hats and named the company after my grandpa, Harold Findlay, who had a huge hat collection. He passed right before we launched, but he knew it would carry his name. We started in a living room, moved to a garage, and now run a 10,000 square foot shop on North Interstate in Portland where every hat gets customized in-house.
